WALL LABEL: Metamorphosis, collection display 2023
The depiction of the goddess Isis nursing her infant son Horus is one of the most iconic representations of these key figures in ancient Egyptian culture. These small statuettes are relatively common Egyptian survivors, and many different versions exist in collections around the world. On her head Isis wears the vulture headdress with sun disk and cow horns, reinforcing the role of goddesses as mothers of Egyptian royalty.
